Super Eagles goalkeeper saves penalty in Wrexham's goalless draw against Wisla Krakow

Super Eagles goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo delivered a standout performance by saving a second-half penalty as Wrexham played out a goalless draw against Wisla Krakow in their first preseason friendly ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Nigerian international, who was introduced after the break, produced a superb stop to deny Jordi Sanchez from the penalty spot, ensuring the Championship side avoided defeat in Poland.

His intervention proved decisive as Wrexham began preparations for the new season with a hard-fought draw.

Okonkwo's latest heroics continue the impressive form he displayed throughout the 2025/26 season, where he established himself as one of Wrexham's most reliable performers.

The former Arsenal goalkeeper registered 10 clean sheets in 39 Championship appearances, helping the Welsh club mount a strong campaign before narrowly missing out on a playoff place.

His consistent performances earned him a maiden call-up to the Super Eagles under head coach Eric Chelle during the Unity Cup, where he made his international debut in Nigeria's 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe.

The 24-year-old's rapid rise has also attracted transfer interest, with Leicester City among the clubs reportedly monitoring his situation during the current summer transfer window.

With the new season fast approaching, Okonkwo will be aiming to build on his impressive performances in preseason as he looks to cement his place as Wrexham's first-choice goalkeeper.
