Official: Teenage midfielder Popoola joins 8-time UAE Pro League champions

Eight-time United Arab Emirates Pro League champions Al Wasl have completed the signing of Nigerian midfielder Popoola Ridwan from Hungarian club Kisvárda.

The Dubai-based club confirmed the transfer through its official channels, with the 19-year-old joining on a permanent deal ahead of the 2026/27 season. Financial details of the agreement were not disclosed.

Popoola, who primarily operates as a defensive midfielder, arrives at Al Wasl after an impressive rise in European football.

The Nigeria youth prospect joined Kisvárda from Seamoriow FC in February 2025 and quickly established himself as one of the club's promising young talents.

Before moving to Europe, Popoola developed through Olukismet FC and Seamoriow FC, where his performances attracted interest from overseas clubs.

His move to Kisvárda proved to be an important stepping stone, allowing him to gain valuable experience in senior European football.

The switch to Al Wasl represents another major milestone in his career as he prepares to compete in the UAE Pro League.

The club will hope his defensive qualities and athleticism strengthen their midfield options as they target success in domestic competitions during the new campaign.

The transfer offers Popoola an opportunity to continue his development in a competitive environment while gaining further first-team experience.

At just 19, the midfielder remains one of Nigeria's exciting young prospects, and his move to Al Wasl is expected to provide another platform to showcase his talent and continue his steady rise in professional football.
