'Mbappe has been frightening' - Iwobi left impressed by France captain's stunning opener against Sweden

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has reacted to Kylian Mbappe's opening goal and praised the France captain's electrifying display in Les Bleus' commanding 3-0 victory over Sweden in the FIFA World Cup Round of 32.

Mbappe opened the scoring in the first half, gliding past the last Sweden defender inside the penalty area before firing a superb effort into the top corner.

Reacting to the opener while on punditry duty the Super Eagles star highlighted the influence of Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise and Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele in the build-up to the goal.

The Nigerian international praised France's fluid attacking movement and insisted Mbappe's breakthrough was only a matter of time, given the relentless pressure Les Bleus had been applying from the opening stages.

“A quick corner kick with Olise and Dembele interchanging with Mbappe,” Iwobi told SuperSport, as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com.

“It was a matter of time before one of those chances were going in. Mbappe has been frightening and electric from the start.”

Iwobi also pointed to a noticeable shift in France's intensity after the hydration break, suggesting it sparked an even more devastating attacking display.

“I feel like maybe since the hydration break, they come together, I don't know what they said to each other, they have been on fire,” he added.

“They have been dynamic. They have been interchanging. Dembele and Olise switched positions and it was only a matter of time before one of the front four was going to find the back of the net.”

He completed his brace in the second half, racing onto a perfectly weighted through ball from Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise before calmly slotting the ball into the bottom corner.

The double took Mbappe's tally at the tournament to 18 goals, moving him into second place on the competition's all-time scoring charts, behind only Lionel Messi.
