Hull City announce departure of Nigeria centre-back after just one season

Through a statement on the official website, Hull City have announced the departure of Nigerian central defender Akin Famewo, who has completed a move to Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers for an undisclosed fee.

Famewo has ended his one year association with the Tigers, whom he joined in July 2025 following his release by Sheffield Wednesday.

The 27-year-old, who was born in the English capital London, made seventeen appearances over the course of the 2025-2026 season, scoring his only goal in a 3-0 road win over Preston North End in January.

However, he was not called up for the Championship playoff final win versus Middlesbrough, but was on the bench for the semifinals second leg clash with Millwall.

His new employers Bolton Wanderers also secured promotion last term, beating Stockport County 4-1 in the League One playoff final at Wembley Stadium.

Famewo put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Bolton Wanderers and becomes the club's third signing of the summer transfer window.

He has Championship experience, having played 63 games combined during spells with Hull City and Sheffield Wednesday.

Wanderers will begin their Championship season against Preston North End at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on August 15.
