CF Montreal and Nigeria international mutually agree to terminate contract

Through official channels, CF Montréal have confirmed that the club and one-cap Nigeria international Sunusi Ibrahim have mutually agreed to terminate his contract, bringing an end to his long spell with the Major League Soccer side.

The 23-year-old striker departs the Canadian club after more than five years, having initially joined in January 2021 from Nigerian side 36 Lion FC.

brahim arrived as a promising young forward and gradually worked his way into the first-team setup, making his professional debut during the 2021 MLS season

Over the course of his time in Montreal, Ibrahim featured in both Major League Soccer and domestic cup competitions, providing attacking options across several campaigns.

He was widely regarded as a developing talent within the squad, gaining valuable experience in North American football while continuing his progression as a forward.

Before his move to Canada, Ibrahim made his name in Nigerian football with Nasarawa United and later 36 Lion FC, where he attracted attention for his goal-scoring ability at youth level.

His performances earned him a move abroad at a young age, marking the start of his professional career outside Africa.

Ibrahim has represented Nigeria at youth level, including appearances with the U23 national team, and has also been involved with the Super Eagles setup during earlier stages of his development, where he was considered one of the country’s emerging attacking prospects.

His departure now makes him a free agent, opening the door for a potential new move ahead of the next stage of his career.

CF Montréal, meanwhile, continue their squad reshaping process as they adjust their roster for the ongoing 2026 campaign.

The forward leaves the club after more than five seasons, marking the end of an important chapter in his development in Major League Soccer.
