Daniel Bameyi has terminated his contract with Slovenian side ND Primorje Ajdovščina following the club's relegation from the Slovenian PrvaLiga.
The 20-year-old centre-back, who previously captained Nigeria's Flying Eagles and has earned one cap for the Super Eagles, opted to leave the club despite having two years remaining on his contract.
Primorje are currently rebuilding their squad ahead of life in the Slovenian second tier, but Bameyi has decided against continuing with the club outside the top flight as he seeks to maintain his development at the highest possible level.
Bameyi confirmed his departure in an emotional farewell message shared on his Instagram account, where he expressed gratitude to the club, teammates and supporters for the opportunity to represent Primorje.
"Today I say goodbye with a heart full of gratitude,” Bameyi wrote on his social media account. “Being part of this club has been one of the most valuable experiences of my life.”
“The friendships, the lessons, the team spirit and the memories we have created together will forever hold a special place in my heart.
“Thank you for welcoming me among you, supporting me and giving me the opportunity to grow personally and professionally.
“Every meeting, every project and every event has contributed to my life journey, which is why I am proud to have been a member of this exceptional club.
“Although I am leaving, I will always appreciate the bond that connects us and wish the club much success on all future paths from the bottom of my heart.
“May the club continue to grow, reach new milestones and positively impact the lives of many people with its activities. Once again, my sincere thanks for everything. I wish you all the best. Goodbye and may God bless our club and each of you.”
Bameyi completed his move to Primorje earlier this year and spent just six months with the Slovenian outfit, making seven appearances during his spell with the Vipava Valley-based club.
Despite his limited game time, the young defender remains one of Nigeria's highly rated defensive prospects, having impressed at youth international level before making his Super Eagles debut in a friendly against Costa Rica.
With the summer transfer window now in full swing, Bameyi is expected to attract interest from clubs across Europe as he looks to secure a move that will allow him to continue playing top-flight football and further his development.
