FC Basel are reportedly closing in on the signing of Nigerian defender Akpe Victory from Hungarian side Zalaegerszegi TE (ZTE) ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The move comes just days after Basel strengthened their squad with the loan signing of Nigerian winger Kazeem Olaigbe from Trabzonspor, as the club continues to bolster its ranks for the new campaign.
Victory enjoyed an impressive 2025/26 season with Zalaegerszegi TE, establishing himself as one of the club's standout performers.
The 19-year-old impressed with his composure at the back, strong defensive displays and ability to contribute in attacking situations, particularly from set-piece deliveries.
His performances attracted interest from several European clubs, with Benfica, Trabzonspor, Rangers, and FC Basel all reportedly monitoring his progress during the transfer window.
According to transfer expert Rudy Galetti, Basel are now leading the race for the highly-rated defender and are edging closer to finalising an agreement with Zalaegerszegi TE despite strong competition from rival clubs.
The report adds that after weeks of negotiations, the Swiss outfit has significantly narrowed the gap with the Hungarian side, who had previously rejected offers for the promising defender.
With both clubs now believed to be close to reaching a full agreement, Victory appears set to embark on a new chapter in Switzerland, where he is expected to continue his development with one of the country's most successful clubs.
