Why Akor Adams and Ejuke are not with Sevilla for start of pre-season

Sevilla have begun their 2026–27 pre-season preparations with Super Eagles duo Akor Adams and Chidera Ejuke set to miss the opening training sessions, as the club’s summer rebuild gets underway under head coach Luis García Plaza, according to a report by ABC Sevilla.

Akor Adams is unavailable after being on international duty with the Super Eagles at the end of last season, delaying his return to the Spanish side as Sevilla players report back for medicals and initial fitness work.

Chidera Ejuke, meanwhile, is not currently in Seville as he is resolving bureaucratic issues expected to be concluded in the coming days, which has also prevented him from linking up with the squad at the start of pre-season.

Beyond their short-term absence, both players are also attracting attention in the transfer market.

Akor Adams, who joined Sevilla after a successful spell in Ligue 1, is attracting significant interest following a solid debut campaign in Spain.

Reports in the Spanish media suggest Serie A side Venezia are pushing strongly for his signature, with negotiations ongoing after Sevilla reportedly rejected an initial offer in the region of €10 million, insisting on a higher valuation.

Despite the speculation, the striker remains a key asset, having contributed important goals last season.

Ejuke is also facing an uncertain future, with Sevilla believed to be open to offers for the winger as part of their wider strategy to balance the wage bill.

The former CSKA Moscow player has also drawn interest from clubs across Europe, with his contract situation making him an attractive option in the market.

Sevilla are expected to make key decisions on both players in the coming weeks as pre-season progresses, with further movement in and out of the squad anticipated before the transfer window closes.
