Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe will bring her memorable six-year journey with Benfica women to an end when her contract expires on June 30.
In an official statement published on the club’s website, Benfica announced that the Nigerian international will follow a new path in her professional career after six successful years with the club.
Ucheibe joined Benfica in February 2020 at the age of 19 after making the move to Portugal, shortly before football competitions were disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
She quickly developed into an important member of the squad and became one of the key figures in the club’s dominant period in women’s football.
During her time at Benfica, the 25-year-old made 179 appearances and scored 11 goals, establishing herself as a reliable presence in midfield and earning admiration from supporters.
The club highlighted her growth as a player, her commitment to daily team routines, and her contribution both on and off the pitch.
The Nigerian star was part of a historic Benfica era that saw the team secure six league titles. Her trophy cabinet with the club also includes two Portuguese Cups, five League Cups, and two Super Cups.
Ucheibe’s performances at club level also helped her rise to prominence with the Nigerian national team.
She became a regular member of the Super Falcons squad and was part of the Nigeria team that won the Women's Afcon in 2024.
Benfica praised the midfielder’s professionalism and team spirit throughout her stay, describing her as a player who created a strong connection with the club’s supporters.
