Bristol City have moved ahead of Portsmouth in the race to sign Amsterdam-born Nigerian defensive midfielder Gibson Yah.
It was previously reported that Portsmouth were in advanced discussions over a potential move for the FC Volendam midfielder.
However, there has been a new development, with Soccer News transfer expert Mounir Boualin reporting that Yah is on the verge of completing a transfer to Bristol City.
The Robins have identified the Nigerian as a potential replacement for Sam Morsy, who is set to leave the club when his contract expires on June 30.
Bristol City have reached a verbal agreement with both FC Volendam and the player, after which the midfielder travelled to England to undergo a medical ahead of his unveiling.
If he passes his medical, it will bring an end to his one-year spell with FC Volendam, whom he joined from Utrecht last summer after previous stints with the youth teams of DVC Buiksloot and Ajax Amsterdam.
Despite Volendam's relegation, the 22-year-old enjoyed a decent campaign last season, starting 20 of their 34 Eredivisie matches and also featuring in the Keuken Kampioen Play-Offs.
Yah is expected to sign a long-term contract with Bristol City.
