Through official channels, German 2. Bundesliga club Dynamo Dresden have announced the signing of dual-national centre-back Kenneth Schmidt ahead of the start of pre-season preparations.
The German-Nigerian defender made 21 appearances across the 2. Bundesliga and the DFB Cup for Fortuna Düsseldorf during the 2025-26 campaign.
However, his season was cut short in mid-February 2026 after he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in his left knee during a training session.
Standing at 1.89 metres tall, Schmidt was born on June 3, 2002, in Freiburg.
He began his career with local clubs SV Solvay Freiburg, Sportfreunde Eintracht Freiburg, and FC Emmendingen before joining SC Freiburg’s academy in 2017.
The centre-back progressed through Freiburg’s youth ranks and U23 side before breaking into the first-team squad.
After spending a season with Hannover 96, Schmidt moved to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the summer of 2025.
Across his career, Schmidt has made 10 Bundesliga appearances, 20 outings in the 2. Bundesliga, and featured twice in the UEFA Europa League.
He has also represented Germany at various youth levels, from the U18s through to the U21s.
