Official: 'Small but clever' Nigeria youth international joins HJK Helsinki

33-time Finnish Veikkausliiga champions HJK Helsinki have announced the signing of Nigeria youth international Qurib Adetola.

Adetola has joined HJK from Nigerian club Derby Football Academy, signing a deal until 2027, with a club option for the 2028 campaign.

The Helsinki outfit confirmed that they will pay compensation for the transfer of the 18-year-old.

HJK have described Adetola as a 'small but clever' player, who is at his best in an attacking role in midfield or as a winger.

Blessed with exceptional pace, Adetola has spent his entire academy career with Derby and is now preparing to take the first step of his journey into European football.

Commenting on the transfer of Adetola, HJK's sports director Petri Vuorinen noted that Adetola had arrived in the country shortly after turning 18, describing it as excellent timing, as it would allow him to adapt quickly to European football.

He added that the young midfielder was highly skilled in tight spaces, while also being hardworking and disciplined defensively.

He concluded that Adetola possessed tremendous potential and believed he would become an even more dangerous player once he learned to make better use of his pace.

Adetola has been training with his new teammates since mid-June and could make his competitive debut on July 11 when Klubi 04 battle Jippo in a Ykkösliiga match.
