Former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel has been ranked eighth on Chelsea’s list of most capped international players who accrued the most international caps during their time at Stamford Bridge.
Mikel, who spent over a decade at Chelsea between 2006 and 2017, earned 73 international caps for Nigeria while on the club’s books, scoring four goals and establishing himself as one of the Super Eagles’ most influential midfielders.
According to the ranking, Frank Lampard leads the list with 104 England caps, followed by Petr Čech (91 caps for Czech Republic) and Branislav Ivanović (83 caps for Serbia).
John Terry sits fourth with 78 England appearances, while Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba are tied on 74 caps each for Belgium and Ivory Coast respectively.
Marcel Desailly also recorded 74 caps for France during his Chelsea spell.
Mikel ranks ahead of Willian (68 caps for Brazil) and Thibaut Courtois (65 caps for Belgium), emphasizing his consistency at international level while competing in one of the most demanding eras in Chelsea’s history.
While primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder at club level, Mikel played a more advanced and creative role for Nigeria, where he featured at multiple Africa Cup of Nations tournaments and FIFA World Cups.
His leadership qualities eventually saw him captain the Super Eagles, further cementing his legacy as one of Nigeria’s most respected football exports.
His inclusion in the top 10 places him among Chelsea’s most decorated international representatives, reflecting both his longevity and importance for club and country during his playing career.
