Trabzonspor's incoming winger Aral Şimşir has expressed his excitement about linking up with Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu, insisting he is confident he can help the Super Eagles forward score plenty of goals with his creativity.
Onuachu, who completed a permanent move to Trabzonspor from Southampton last summer, enjoyed a remarkable campaign in Turkey.
The 32-year-old scored 22 goals and registered two assists in 30 Turkish Super Lig appearances, finishing as the league's top scorer and playing a key role in the club's qualification for European competition.
Speaking after arriving in Trabzon on a private jet on Tuesday, Şimşir outlined his ambitions ahead of his first season with the Black Sea club.
"My first priority is to score goals and provide assists,” Şimşir said via 61saat.
“I want to do the same in the national team. I am used to playing as a number 10 and on the left wing. I enjoy playing in these positions."
The 24-year-old also highlighted his excitement at playing alongside Onuachu, insisting he is determined to create opportunities for the prolific Nigerian striker.
"I will do my best. I will do everything I can to help Onuachu score a goal,” he added.
Trabzonspor are on the brink of completing the signing of Şimşir from Danish Superliga club FC Midtjylland as part of their preparations for the new campaign.
According to reports, the Turkish side paid an initial €13 million for the winger, with an additional €2 million in performance-related bonuses included in the agreement.
