Former Liverpool defender to manage Super Eagles stars Iwobi and Bassey at Fulham

Alvaro Arbeloa has been announced as the coach of Fulham, setting up a fresh chapter for Nigerian internationals Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The former Liverpool defender succeeded the Portuguese tactician Marco Silva, who departed the club at the end of last season, following the expiration of his contract.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles duo Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey established themselves as key players for the Cottagers during Silva's successful spell at Craven Cottage before his move to Benfica.

Iwobi was one of Fulham's standout performers last season, contributing four goals and three assists in 29 Premier League appearances.

Bassey also enjoyed an impressive campaign, proving to be a dependable presence at the heart of Fulham's defence.

The Nigerian centre-back made 30 Premier League appearances, while also chipping in with one goal and one assist.

Despite the strong performances of both Nigerians, Fulham narrowly missed out on securing European qualification at the end of the season, much to the disappointment of the departing Silva.

With Arbeloa set to begin his reign ahead of the 2026/27 campaign, Iwobi and Bassey will be aiming to build on their impressive performances and establish themselves as key figures under the new manager.
