Former Nigeria centre-back William Troost-Ekong has identified Morocco as the best-playing African nation at the 2026 Fifa World Cup group stage.
Africa are well represented in the round of 32, with South Africa, Morocco, Côte d’Ivoire, Cape Verde, Egypt, Senegal, Ghana, Congo DR and Algeria all qualifying for the knockout stage.
Morocco finished second in Group C following victories over Scotland and Haiti after an impressive opening draw with Brazil.
PSV Eindhoven's Ismael Saibari has been Morocco's standout player of the tournament, scoring in three consecutive matches during the group stage.
Troost-Ekong, who captained the Super Eagles before calling time on his international career ahead of Afcon 2025, praised the Atlas Lions' impressive start to the tournament and believes they have been the continent's standout representatives so far.
The Dutch-born Al-Ahli defender is looking forward to Morocco's meeting with the Netherlands at the Estadio BBVA, Guadalupe on Monday.
Speaking on SuperSports, as monitored by allnigeriasoccer.com, Troost-Ekong said: "Massive game, of course. I'm half Dutch. Morocco started the tournament so well; I thought they were probably the best-playing nation to represent the continent at the moment, so I'm looking forward to seeing how they are going to do against the Netherlands."
Morocco became the first African team to reach the semifinals of the Fifa World Cup in 2022 and have continued to attract praise for their performances on the global stage.
