Confirmed: Super Eagles midfielder joins PL new boys Coventry City on permanent deal

With a statement on the official website, Premier League new boys Coventry City have announced the signing of Nigeria international Frank Onyeka on a permanent deal.

The Sky Blues did not reveal the duration or financial details of the agreement.

The midfielder arrived at Coventry City on a loan deal in the winter transfer market, but his move from The Bees has now been made permanent after the summer transfer window opened.

Onyeka played a key role in Coventry's EFL Championship title triumph, featuring 14 times and scoring one goal in the second tier of English football.

His spectacular goal in the Sky Blues' 3-2 win against Derby County earned a nomination for the club's Goal of the Season award.

Onyeka made 87 appearances in all competitions during his five years with Brentford, including 75 in the Premier League.

Commenting on his permanent switch to Coventry, the Super Eagles star said: "I’m really excited for the new season with Coventry.

"When I first joined last season, I came here with two goals and that was to win the Championship and help Coventry get promoted to the Premier League.

"I’m really happy to now be a Coventry player back in the Premier League.

"I will give everything to the team, fight for every ball, fight for my teammates and bring my experience.

"My ambition now is to help the Club stay in the Premier League and finish as high as we can."

A reunion at the Gtech Community Stadium could be on the cards in February 2027 when Onyeka’s Coventry side visit the Bees, who will first travel to the CBS Arena for their final fixture of 2026.
