Through official channels, reigning League of Ireland Premier Division champions Shamrock Rovers have announced the singing of Celtic old boy Jonathan Afolabi.
The former Republic of Ireland U21 international of Nigerian descent has signed a multi-year contract with Shamrock Rovers, following the expiration of his contract Belgian side KV Kortrijk.
Afolabi began his development in the youth academies of Shamrock Rovers, St Joseph's Boys and Southampton before joining Celtic in 2019.
During his time with the Scottish Premiership champions, he gained valuable first-team experience on loan at Dunfermline Athletic, Dundee, Ayr United and Airdrieonians before completing a permanent move to Bohemians.
Afolabi is back in the League of Ireland Premier Division, where he enjoyed a prolific 2023 campaign, finishing as the division's leading scorer with 15 goals in 34 league matches.
Jonathan also found the net 5 times in the FAI Cup and provided 7 assists.
The Irish-Nigerian forward has joined Shamrock Rovers two days before they face Maltese club Floriana in the first qualifying round of UEFA Champions League.
He links up with future Arsenal player Victor Ozhianvuna, Tunmise Sobowale and Todd Bazunu at Shamrock Rovers.
