With a statement on the official website, Serbian Superliga side FK Zeleznicar Pancevo have announced the signing of Nigerian centre-forward David Ankeye.
By signing a three-year contract with FK Železničar Pančevo until June 30, 2029, Ankeye has brought his two-and-a-half-year association with Italian club Genoa to an end.
FK Zeleznicar Pancevo also confirmed that Ankeye has joined the club for a transfer fee of 500,000 euros (approximately N800 million in Nigerian currency).
After joining Genoa from Sheriff Tiraspol in January 2024, Ankeye found first-team opportunities limited at the Rossoblù, resulting in loan moves to Rapid București, Virtus Entella and Krasava ENY Ypsonas FC.
Overall, he made eleven appearances in all competitions for Genoa, including ten in the Italian top-flight.
Speaking after putting pen to paper, Ankeye revealed that he idolizes Cameroon and Barcelona legend Samuel Eto'o.
"I am happy to be here. I can't wait to meet you and I'm ready to give my best for this team and this crest. I want to be the best version of myself in this club, to help the team progress and through that to take the next step in my career," he stated.
"I would describe myself as a fast player, aggressive on the field and as a striker who scores goals. My favorite player is Samuel Eto'o."
Ankeye is a product of Sidos FC, the same academy that produced former Golden Eaglets dazzler Akinkunmi Amoo, and has also had spells with Hammarby, Hammam Sousse and Jimmy Football Academy.
The Nigerian becomes Železničar's fourth signing of the summer, following the arrivals of Billy G, Nemanja Zarić and Mamane Amadou Saba.
