German 2. Bundesliga club Karlsruher SC have strengthened their squad ahead of the forthcoming season with the signing of Nigerian fullback Kimberly Ezekwem.
Ezekwem is expected to be gradually reintegrated into professional football through regular appearances for Karlsruher U23s after recovering from a long-term injury that restricted him to just one appearance in his final season with SC Freiburg.
The 25-year-old is a product of Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich, having spent seven years in their academy before joining Freiburg in 2018.
During the 2020-21 season, he played a key role in helping Freiburg's reserve side secure promotion to the 3. Liga, establishing himself as a regular starter and providing 14 assists in the campaign.
In his second season in Germany's third tier, the left-back made his Bundesliga debut against RB Leipzig before joining SC Paderborn on loan for the 2023-2024 campaign.
However, his spell at Paderborn was disrupted by illness, which forced him to take an extended break after making seven appearances.
"My goal is first to integrate into the team and get back to top form. Once that's achieved, I want to recommend myself for the professional team," Ezekwem said to the official webpage of Karlsruher.
Born in Munich, Ezekwem has yet to be capped by Germany at any level.
