Atalanta have rejected a £30 million bid from Brighton for Nigeria-eligible defender Honest Ahanor, according to transfer market expert Nicolò Schira, with the Serie A club holding out for a significantly higher valuation for their highly rated teenager.
Brighton are understood to have made the initial approach as part of their ongoing strategy of targeting emerging talents across Europe, but the offer was swiftly turned down by Atalanta, who are not prepared to sanction an exit at that figure.
The Italian side are reportedly demanding in the region of £40–45 million (approximately N73.2 - N82 billion in Nigerian currency) for the 2008-born centre-back, a valuation that reflects both his rapid rise through the ranks and the growing belief within the club that he could become a long-term defensive cornerstone.
Ahanor has quickly established himself as one of the most promising young defenders in Atalanta’s system.
Born in Aversa, Italy, to Nigerian parents, he remains eligible to represent both Italy and Nigeria at senior international level.
Despite his age, he has shown remarkable maturity in defensive duels, calmness in possession, and the tactical awareness required to operate in multiple defensive roles.
His versatility has made him especially attractive to clubs like Brighton, who continue to prioritise young, adaptable players capable of developing within structured systems.
However, Atalanta’s firm stance suggests they see the teenager as more than just a transfer asset.
The rejection of Brighton’s opening bid signals that any potential deal will require a major financial commitment.
Atalanta are under no pressure to sell and are expected to resist further advances unless their valuation is met or exceeded.
