Banik Ostrava coach admits it's only a matter of time before Super Eagles RB Bewene departs

Banik Ostrava manager Roman Skuhravý has suggested that Super Eagles right back Abdullahi Bewene could leave the club this summer, revealing that the signing of Matúš Kmeť was made in anticipation of the Nigerian defender's potential departure.

Bewene enjoyed an outstanding 2025/26 campaign with the Czech side, establishing himself as one of the league's most consistent fullbacks.

The Nigerian defender scored one goal and registered four assists in 38 appearances across all competitions, attracting attention with his energetic displays at both ends of the pitch.

His impressive performances at club level earned him a maiden invitation to the Super Eagles, where he made his senior international debut in a friendly against Poland.

Bewene's rapid development has not gone unnoticed, with several top Czech clubs, including Slavia Prague and Viktoria Plzeň, reportedly monitoring his situation ahead of the 2026/27 season.

Speaking about the defender's future in an interview with Banik Ostrava's Chachar Pass app via Infotbal, Skuhravý acknowledged that the club expects interest in Bewene and has already begun planning for life without him.

"We definitely have to think about the fact that sooner or later an offer will come for Bewene and we need a replacement,” Skuhravý said.

The manager explained that the arrival of new signing Matúš Kmeť is part of the club's long-term planning, while urging the Slovak defender to learn alongside Bewene before potentially taking over his role.

“I believe that Matúš will use the opportunity he got here and help us," he concluded.

With preparations for the 2026/27 campaign underway, Bewene is expected to continue attracting interest from clubs across Europe as he weighs the next step in his career.

Regardless of where he begins the new season, the Super Eagles defender will be aiming to build on his breakthrough campaign and continue his development.
