Super Eagles striker trains individually as Panathinaikos begin preparations for new season

Cyriel Dessers continued his rehabilitation with the Super Eagles striker training individually when Panathinaikos began preparations for the new season on Thursday afternoon.

The Nigerian forward joined his teammates at the G. Kalafatis training centre as the Greek giants held their first session under new head coach Jakob Neestrup, but he followed a separate training schedule as he works towards full fitness.

Dessers joined Panathinaikos from Rangers last September and made a promising start to life at the club before his season was disrupted by injury.

The attacker suffered the setback while on international duty with the Super Eagles at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ruling him out for the remainder of the campaign.

Before the injury, Dessers delivered a key performance in Panathinaikos' 2-1 victory over Volos NFC, scoring one goal and providing an assist.

The 31-year-old ended his first season with Panathinaikos making just eight appearances across all competitions, scoring three goals and registering one assist.

As the Greens begin preparations for the new campaign, Dessers will be hoping to regain full fitness and play a more influential role under Neestrup, who is introducing his football philosophy and demands to the squad.
