Super Eagles centre-back Jordan Torunarigha has outlined his ambitions for the upcoming season, emphasizing leadership, consistency, and improved responsibility as he continues to settle into life at Hamburger SV.
Before the performance tests, which began on Monday at Volkspark, Torunarigha revealed he maintained a strict training routine throughout the summer break in a bid to ensure peak physical condition ahead of pre-season preparations.
He admitted that his commitment during the off-season was deliberate and structured, aimed at giving him an early edge when team activities resumed.
“I used my entire vacation and every single day off to prepare myself as best as possible for the new season. This daily training helps me a lot,” he said as quoted by Bild.
The left-footed centre-back believes the extra work away from the club will play a crucial role in his performances, particularly as he looks to build on his first season in Germany’s top flight.
After making 21 Bundesliga starts in his debut campaign with HSV, the former KAA Gent defender is targeting greater influence at the heart of the defence.
Beyond fitness, Torunarigha has set his sights on stepping into a more vocal and guiding role within the squad, especially when it comes to supporting younger teammates adapting to senior football.
“For the upcoming season, I've set myself the goal of taking on even more responsibility and helping the younger players with my experience, both on and off the pitch,” he added.
With pre-season intensity rising at Volkspark, Torunarigha’s focus on discipline and leadership signals his intent to become a central figure in HSV’s plans moving forward.
