'I have no words to this day' - Blackburn RB Alebiosu on Super Eagles debut and Afcon call-up

Blackburn Rovers right-back Ryan Alebiosu has described his maiden Super Eagles call-up and international debut at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as one of the most emotional moments of his career.

Alebiosu earned his first invitation to the Nigerian national team after an impressive debut season with Blackburn Rovers following his arrival from Belgian side KV Kortrijk last summer.

The 24-year-old established himself as a key figure for Rovers throughout the Championship campaign, delivering consistent performances at both ends of the pitch to help the club successfully avoid relegation.

The former Arsenal academy defender went on to make his international debut in Nigeria's 3-1 victory over Uganda in their final group-stage match, marking a memorable milestone in his career.

Speaking to Rovers TV, Alebiosu admitted he never imagined representing Nigeria at the start of last season, describing the call-up as an unforgettable experience.

“That was special for me,” Alebiosu said. “If I was to look towards the start of the season thinking that I would get an international cap, I won't even think that.”

“So, to get that call in December, I have no words to this day. It was an emotional time.”

After an encouraging first season at Ewood Park, Alebiosu has set his sights on taking his game to another level under Blackburn's new manager, Tony Mowbray.

The Nigerian defender believes there is still plenty of room for improvement and is determined to become more effective in the attacking third during the 2026/27 campaign.

“There's a lot more. A new gaffar has come in. There is a lot I can learn from him and the coaching staff to bring into my game. For this new season add more goals and assists to my game,” he added.

Having enjoyed a breakthrough campaign, Alebiosu will be aiming to build on his impressive performances as Blackburn prepare for the new Championship season.
