'He looks very good' - Viktoria Plzen coach gives encouraging fitness update on Super Eagles attacker

Speaking after his side's 1-1 draw against Spartak Trnava in a pre-season friendly on Wednesday, Viktoria Plzeň coach Martin Hyský provided an update on the fitness of Nigeria international Salim Fago Lawal.

Lawal switched to Viktoria Plzeň from NK Istra 1961 in the January transfer window, signing a deal until June 30, 2029.

However, he was ruled out for the remainder of the campaign in March after suffering a season-ending injury in a league encounter with Bohemians Prague 1905.

Although Lawal was included in Viktoria Plzeň's training camp squad, he did not feature in their pre-season friendlies against SK Artis Brno and Spartak Trnava.

Lawal is currently undergoing a gradual return-to-training programme as he works towards regaining full fitness, with Hyský revealing that the forward has made encouraging progress.

When asked about Lawal's condition, he was quoted as saying by iSport: "He is undergoing controlled training and looks very good. I am looking forward to having him back.

"The plan is for him to be able to participate in the second match of the training camp in Austria. We will see how much of the game he will play. I am looking forward to having him back; we will need his qualities and skills."

Lawal, who scored twice in nine appearances before his injury setback, was unavailable for Nigeria’s international fixtures in March, May and June
