Danish club FC Midtjylland in negotiations with Etim over buyback clause

Friday Etim could be set for a return to FC Midtjylland, just five months after leaving the Danish Superliga club.

Etim departed Herning in January 2026 when Midtjylland sold him to newly promoted FC Fredericia, where he quickly made an impression with his physical presence and attacking qualities.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a productive spell, scoring five goals and providing one assist in 14 Superliga appearances.

However, his efforts were not enough to prevent FC Fredericia from suffering relegation to the Betinia Liga.

Now, a comeback to the MCH Arena could be on the cards, with FC Midtjylland and Etim’s representatives in discussions over a possible return.

According to Danish outlet Bold, FC Midtjylland included a buyback clause in the agreement when Etim joined Fredericia. The clause is now at the centre of negotiations between the two parties.

Despite having attacking options such as Dju Franculino, Cho Gue-sung, Mikael Uhre and Junior Brumado, FC Midtjylland are believed to see potential value in activating the clause.

However, the club's intention could be to trigger the buyback option and potentially move Etim on in the summer transfer window, depending on the situation.

No agreement has been reached yet, and talks remain ongoing. As a result, it is still unclear whether Etim will return to FC Midtjylland this summer.

If a deal is completed, Etim would leave FC Fredericia after only half a season at the club, despite having a contract that runs until the summer of 2029.
