Confirmed: FC Midtjylland activate buyback clause to re-sign Etim

With a statement on the official website, Danish Superliga side FC Fredericia have confirmed that FC Midtjylland have activated the buyback clause to re-sign forward Friday Etim, bringing an end to his short spell at the club.

The move sees Etim return to Midtjylland just months after initially completing a transfer to Fredericia earlier in 2026.

The Nigerian forward joined Fredericia in January after leaving Midtjylland, with a buyback clause included in the agreement that has now been triggered by his former club.

Etim’s return comes after a brief but notable period at Fredericia, where he quickly integrated into the squad and contributed to the team’s attacking options.

Despite his short stay, he is understood to have made a strong impression through his performances and development.

FC Fredericia confirmed the activation of the clause in their official communication, noting that the arrangement formed part of the original transfer structure when the player arrived from Midtjylland.

The club also highlighted that interest in Etim had existed from multiple sides, making his situation one that was always likely to attract further movement.

During his time at Fredericia, Etim was regarded as a player with strong potential, having arrived to gain more consistent playing opportunities after previously struggling for regular minutes at Midtjylland.

His progress during the campaign is believed to have influenced Midtjylland’s decision to bring him back into their setup.

The Lagos-born forward, who has also gained experience in European football outside Denmark, is now expected to rejoin Midtjylland’s squad preparations ahead of the next phase of the season.

He will compete for a place in the attacking department as the club continues to strengthen its options.
