'No longer on my mind' - Leverkusen forward Boniface says knee injury fears have gone

Nigeria forward Victor Boniface has provided an encouraging update on his recovery as he continues his comeback journey with Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen following a knee surgery earlier in the year.

The 25-year-old is already back in training with the ball at Leverkusen’s facilities and is gradually rebuilding his fitness ahead of the new season.

Boniface, who spent part of last campaign on loan at Werder Bremen, has been working closely with the club’s medical and fitness staff as he targets a return to full competitive action.

Speaking on his recovery progress, Boniface expressed optimism about his physical and mental state on the pitch, insisting that his knee issues are no longer affecting his confidence.

“Boni” is back scoring goals for Bayer! The striker said: “The knee problems are no longer on my mind when I'm on the pitch, that's a very good feeling," Boniface told BILD.

The Nigerian international further explained that his focus remains on gradual improvement as he works his way back to peak condition.

“I'm working on getting back into very good form step by step," he added.

Boniface has been undergoing a tailored programme that includes gym sessions, mobility exercises, and controlled on-pitch drills aimed at restoring full match sharpness.

His return to ball work is seen as a key milestone in his rehabilitation following knee surgery in January.

The striker remains under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until 2028, with the club closely monitoring his progress as he prepares for pre-season involvement.

Boniface’s return is expected to be carefully managed, but his latest comments suggest growing confidence as he edges closer to full fitness and competitive action once again.
