Barcelona striker Robert Lewandowski fired blanks as Poland were held to a 2–2 draw by Nigeria in a friendly staged at the PGE Narodowy in Warsaw on Wednesday, June 3.
Despite a few promising chances, the Poland captain was unable to find the back of the net in what proved to be a frustrating night.
Poland were forced to come from behind on two separate occasions as the Super Eagles matched them stride for stride in an entertaining friendly.
It was a stoppage-time equaliser from Przemysław Wiśniewski that salvaged a 2–2 draw for two-time World Cup bronze winners.
A costly slip from Maduka Okoye in the 72nd minute gifted Lewandowski a golden opportunity after a back pass from Zaidu Sanusi.
However, the veteran striker failed to capitalise, sending a weak effort that posed no threat, with Okoye recovering comfortably to make a routine save with his outstretched leg.
According to Sport, Lewandowski was not in the mood to speak to the media after the match, as he quickly passed through the mixed zone without stopping for interviews.
He remained similarly reserved online, sharing an Instagram post around 1 a.m. that contained only photos and no written message.
This is the second consecutive match in which Lewandowski has been contained by Super Eagles defenders, having also failed to score in the March 2018 friendly, which Poland lost 1–0.
