AIK recruitment manager Miika Takkula has responded to the invitation extended to Nigerian winger Zadok Yohanna by the Nigeria Football Federation ahead of the upcoming Unity Cup tournament.
Yohanna, who has enjoyed a bright start to the season in Sweden, has quickly emerged as one of AIK's standout performers.
His performances have sparked growing attention within the Nigerian setup as the team looks to reinforce its attacking options.
The winger has registered two goals and three assists in seven league appearances, a form that earned him a maiden call-up from Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle ahead of the invitational competition.
Speaking to Fotbollskanalen, Takkula confirmed AIK had received the official invitation but stressed that the club would deliberate internally before making a final decision on his release.
"We have received the official invitation. Tomorrow we will go through it internally and then make a decision. We also have matches. We will go through it and then make a decision," Takkula said.
The AIK chief further stated that the club had the right to retain the player, noting that the period in question was not an official international window on the calendar and, in his view, the final decision remained within the club's control.
"We will go through it internally tomorrow and get a complete picture of everything. Then, as you mention, we have every right to keep him here. It is not an official date (national team date in the international calendar) and I think it is in our hands," he added.
Nigeria, who won the 2025 Unity Cup, will face Zimbabwe in the semi-final on Tuesday, May 26.
A victory would see the Super Eagles advance to the final, where they will meet the winner of the other semi-final between Jamaica and India.
