'Try to beat Nigeria' - Jamaica midfielder targets upset against Super Eagles in Unity Cup final

Jamaica midfielder Courtney Clarke is brimming with confidence ahead of Saturday's Unity Cup final against Nigeria at The Valley in London.

The Walsall midfielder, who registered nine goal involvements (two goals and seven assists) during the 2025–2026 campaign, carried his club form onto the international stage by scoring just seven minutes into his debut to inspire the Reggae Boyz to a 2-0 victory over India.

Saturday's showdown between red-hot favourites Nigeria and Jamaica will be the third meeting between both nations in a Unity Cup final, with the Super Eagles narrowly edging the previous two encounters.

In the 2002 final, former Lokomotiv Moscow forward James Obiorah struck the decisive goal in a 1-0 win, while Nigeria again prevailed last year, edging Jamaica on penalties after a 2-2 draw in regulation time.

Clarke insisted that the Reggae Boyz will focus on their own strengths as they aim to cause an upset on Saturday.

"It’s just more of a thing we just have to do what we do, keep our energy, stick to the plan, and let football do the rest," Clarke told reporters at the post-match press conference after the win versus India.

When asked what he is looking forward to for the remainder of the tournament, he replied: "Just to keep working and try to beat Nigeria".

Nigeria and Jamaica will face off at The Valley on Saturday, with kickoff scheduled for 1930 hours Nigerian time.
