Femi Azeez has admitted that scoring for Nigeria on his debut has strengthened his determination to feature in the Premier League
Deployed in the role usually occupied by Ademola Lookman, Azeez delivered a standout performance on his first appearance for Nigeria, scoring twice as Eric Chelle’s side defeated Zimbabwe to book their place in the Unity Cup final.
The Millwall forward arrived in camp on the back of an impressive season at club level, recording 19 goal contributions in 35 Championship appearances.
However, despite his individual brilliance, Millwall narrowly missed out on automatic promotion before suffering playoff heartbreak against Hull City in the semifinal.
Azeez's performances earned widespread recognition, with the 24-year-old named in the Championship Team of the Season before receiving his maiden call-up to the Super Eagles.
Speaking ahead of the Unity Cup final against Jamaica, Azeez told Sky Sports: "I had a good season in the Championship and obviously, to do it on the international stage as well was just that next step up.
"Whenever I achieve something, I'm always hungry for more. I'm never satisfied with what I've got.
"I'm always going to work towards that next level because I'm ambitious as a footballer and as a person, and I want to reach as high of a level as possible.
"The Premier League is obviously the pinnacle of football. I'd love to play in the Premier League. So obviously, working hard, I'm going to do whatever I can to get there."
Signed from Reading in the summer of 2024, Azeez has a contract with Millwall until June 30, 2028.
