Super Eagles debutant Abdullahi Bewene has expressed his pride after making his first appearance for Nigeria in the entertaining 2-2 international friendly draw against Poland in Warsaw.
The young defender was handed his maiden senior international appearance as Nigeria continued preparations for upcoming competitive fixtures under the Super Eagles coaching crew.
Bewane’s inclusion was one of the major talking points before the encounter, with supporters eager to see how the highly-rated player would perform on the international stage.
Nigeria produced an impressive display against the Poles, with the Super Eagles showing attacking quality throughout the contest.
The match eventually ended in a 2-2 draw after both sides created several chances in an entertaining friendly clash.
Speaking to reporters in the mixed zone post-mact, Bewene could not hide his excitement at representing Nigeria for the first time at senior level.
“I'm very happy and proud to represent my country, Nigeria. I am ready to give more of this,” Bewene said after the match.
He also spoke about the mentality he carried onto the pitch during the encounter, insisting he was fully committed to giving everything for the national team whenever called upon.
“When I was on the pitch, I am ready to give my all. I just forget everything and remember that I'm representing the country, so I have to give my all and make them happy. And I have to make my self happy on the pitch,” he added.
Bewene was also asked whether he believes his performance against Poland could lead to more appearances for the Super Eagles in future international matches.
However, the youngster remained humble in his response and insisted the final decision rests with the coaching staff.
“I will not say because the decision is from the coach,” Bewene stated.
