Super Eagles forward Oseni breaks silence after history-making appearance against Zimbabwe

Plymouth Argyle striker Owen Oseni has taken to social media following his history-making appearance for the Super Eagles in their 2-0 victory over Zimbabwe in the semifinals of the 2025 Unity Cup.

Born in Waterford, Oseni is eligible to represent the Republic of Ireland, Nigeria and Ivory Coast through his Irish birth and his Nigerian and Ivorian heritage.

However, the forward has committed his international future to Nigeria.

History was made on May 26 when Oseni came off the bench at the Valley to replace Philip Otele, becoming the first Irish-born player to represent Nigeria's senior national team.

The 23-year-old was an unused substitute in the Unity Cup final against Jamaica and has also been included in the travelling squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Poland and Portugal.

Reflecting on his landmark debut against the Warriors, Oseni described the occasion as a special moment for both himself and his family.

Following an unforgettable week with the Super Eagles in London, Oseni posted on Instagram: "To be the first Irish kid to play for the Super Eagles will be a moment me and my family will cherish forever. What a week with the brothers".

The heartfelt message quickly attracted praise from fans and fellow footballers, many of whom congratulated the forward on his historic Super Eagles debut.

Among those to send their best wishes were Irish-Nigerian players Roland Idowu and Franco Umeh.
