Super Eagles camp update: Iwobi reports for duty, Chelle calls up new LB, Chukwueze arrives Friday

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has reported for international duty in Portugal ahead of the Super Eagles' blockbuster friendly against Seleção das Quinas next Wednesday, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

With 99 senior appearances for Nigeria, the Hale End Academy graduate is on the verge of becoming only the fourth player in the nation's history to reach 100 caps, joining Joseph Yobo, Vincent Enyeama and Ahmed Musa in the exclusive centurions club.

There had been suggestions that Iwobi was unavailable for Wednesday's clash with Poland as a result of the red card he received in the closing minutes of Nigeria's friendly against Jordan in March 2026.

Although 21 players were named in the Super Eagles' matchday squad for the clash with Poland, only 19 members of the group travelled to Portugal.

Pisa striker Rafiu Durosinmi, who has been strongly linked with a move away from the relegated Serie A side this summer, was excused from the trip to attend to private matters.

Meanwhile, Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle has handed a late call-up to 21-year-old Racing Genk left-back Christian Akpan following his recent senior debut for the Belgian club.

Akpan's versatility could prove valuable to the Super Eagles as he is capable of operating on either flank in defence and can also be deployed in a defensive midfield role when required.

The former ASEC Mimosas defender has already arrived in Lisbon ahead of tomorrow's training session.

Iwobi's Fulham teammate, Samuel Chukwueze, is expected to join up with the squad on Friday.
