Spanish-born Nigerian defender signs new contract with Luton Town

With a statement on the official website, EFL League One club Luton Town have announced that Spanish-born Nigerian centre-back Christian Chigozie has put pen to paper on a new contract.

Born in Zaragoza, Chigozie has been part of the Hatters setup since U7 level, progressing steadily through the academy ranks before making his first-team debut in a Carabao Cup clash against Coventry City in August 2025.

He later featured in the EFL Trophy against Barnet's senior side.

The highly-rated defender has since been included in eight official first-team matchday squads, including Premier League trips to Arsenal and Manchester City during the 2023-24 campaign.

The following season, Chigozie captained the Hatters U18s to an impressive EFL Youth Alliance League and PDL Cup double.

Commenting on Chigozie's new contract, Luton boss Jack Wilshere said: "We’re thrilled to secure Christian’s future with us. Christian has undeniable quality, but what stands out about him is his attitude. He is a leader, who I believe is going to have a top career.

"It is no surprise that Christian has enjoyed significant experience in and around the first team squad over the past couple of years, and that will stand him in very good stead going forward.

"Our academy has a fantastic reputation, and credit must go to everyone who has played a role in his development to this date."

Chigozie has been described as an imposing, quick and mobile centre-back, who is equally comfortable playing in a back four or back three.
