Rangers preparing bid for N8b-plus-rated Nigerian centre-back wanted by Benfica

Scottish Premiership giants Rangers have moved ahead of Benfica in the race to sign highly-rated Nigerian defender Akpe Victory from Hungarian side Zalaegerszegi TE.

The 19-year-old centre-back has emerged as one of the most promising young Nigerian defenders in Europe following an impressive breakthrough campaign in Hungary.

His commanding displays at the heart of defence have reportedly attracted interest from clubs in Germany, Spain and France, with Rangers now leading the chase for his signature.

GiveMeSport and TalkSPORT reporter Ben Jacobs confirmed the development on his official X account, revealing that talks are already ongoing between Rangers and the Hungarian club.

Rangers are close to making an offer and the transfer fee is expected to exceed five million euros (more than N8 billion in Nigerian currency).

Victory has enjoyed a solid campaign with Zalaegerszegi, establishing himself as an important member of the squad despite his young age.

Portuguese powerhouse Benfica have also made an approach for the player, although Rangers are believed to be in a stronger position to complete the deal.

The Abuja-born defender joined Zalaegerszegi on a long-term contract and is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable young assets.

His physical presence, aerial ability and composure on the ball have made him one of the standout young African defenders currently playing in Eastern Europe.
