Super Eagles forward Philip Otele made a positive return to action for FC Basel after scoring in their 2-2 pre-season friendly draw against Winterthur on Saturday.
The Nigerian winger restored parity for Basel in the 60th minute after Fabian Rohner had put Winterthur ahead three minutes earlier, before
Roman Buess regained the lead for the hosts in the 83rd minute. Jean Doucoure then struck late to secure a 2-2 draw for Basel.
Otele joined Hamburger SV on loan from FC Basel in February 2026, with the German side securing his services until the end of the season.
The 26-year-old returned to Switzerland after his temporary spell in Germany and will be hoping to play a key role for Basel in the coming season.
The former CFR Cluj forward enjoyed an impressive period with Basel before his loan move, establishing himself as an important attacking option and attracting attention with his pace, direct style and goalscoring ability.
Also featuring for Basel was Nigerian defender Akpe Victory, who recently completed his move to the club.
The 19-year-old centre-back joined Basel from Hungarian top-flight side Zalaegerszegi TE FC and signed a contract running until the summer of 2030.
Victory has made a rapid rise in European football after previously playing for Lithuanian side FK Banga Gargždai before moving to Hungary, where he impressed with his defensive performances.
His move to Basel represents another important step in his development as he begins life with one of Switzerland’s biggest clubs.
With both Otele and Victory now part of Basel’s squad, Nigerian interest at the club continues to grow.
Their performances during pre-season will be closely monitored as they compete for regular roles ahead of the new Swiss Super League season.
