Former Arsenal shot-stopper Arthur Okonkwo has expressed his joy after helping Nigeria clinch the Unity Cup title with a commanding 3-0 victory over Jamaica on Saturday night.
The goalkeeper, who previously represented England at the U16, U17 and U18 levels, played the full 90 minutes as the Super Eagles successfully defended the trophy in front of fans in London.
Speaking after the triumph, Okonkwo admitted he was thrilled to end his season on a high note with silverware.
“It's amazing! I didn't know that my season would end with a trophy,” Okonkwo told Proudly Austin. “I am so happy to be able to achieve it with this team.”
He also praised the team's competitive approach, revealing that the coaching staff had challenged the players to deliver a strong performance.
“The manager wanted us to really compete today {on Saturday}, which I think the team did,” he added.
He also expressed his determination to produce more impressive performances for the Super Eagles after recording clean sheets in his first two appearances for the national team.
“There's only more to prove but the first few games, I am happy with the results and keep going.”
The 24-year-old Okoknow kept 10 clean sheets in 39 league appearances, helping Wrexham mount a strong push for the playoffs before narrowly missing out.
