Irish-born forward on Nigeria's radar continues impressive season with winner for Dundalk

Dublin-born forward Gbemi Arubi continued his impressive form for Dundalk by scoring the game-winning goal in his side's 2-1 win over James Olayinka's Derry City on Friday night.

His latest performance is unlikely to go unnoticed by talent spotters at the Nigeria Football Federation, who are known to be keeping tabs on the 22-year-old with a view to a future Super Eagles call-up.

Although Arubi has earned two caps for the Republic of Ireland U19s, both of which came in friendly matches, he also holds a Nigerian passport and remains open to representing Nigeria at senior international level.

In Dundalk's League of Ireland Premier Division clash with Derry City at Oriel Park, Cameron Dummigan's 58th-minute strike wiped out Daryl Horgan's first half opener, but Arubi restored the hosts' lead less than two minutes later.

Arubi reinstated Dundalk's advantage with a close-range finish after latching onto Horgan's inch-perfect delivery across the face of goal.

The dual-national attacker has now reached double figures for goal contributions in the 2026 campaign, recording seven goals and three assists in 21 appearances across all competitions.

A two-footed forward, Arubi is on the radar of several European clubs ahead of the reopening of the transfer window.
