'I watch PL games a lot' - Brighton brand new signing Zadok explains decision to join Seagulls

Brighton & Hove Albion brand new signing Zadok Yohanna has revealed that the club’s strong reputation for developing young players was a key factor behind his decision to leave AIK Stockholm.

The 18-year-old Nigerian winger completed his move after a blistering start to the 2026 season in Sweden, where he attracted attention for his pace, direct attacking play and maturity on the ball.

Brighton moved quickly to secure his signature as part of their continued strategy of recruiting high-potential young talents for the future.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Yohanna said his regular viewership of the Premier League helped him understand where he would best fit in English football.

“I watch Premier League games a lot, so I know the teams that use young players, and Brighton is one of them."

“I had a lot of good people around me who took care of me. Everyone loved me, so it was difficult to leave,” he said, reflecting on his departure from AIK Stockholm after what he described as a positive experience in Sweden.

Yohanna also revealed that he spoke directly with Fabian Hürzeler before finalising his move, and was encouraged by the manager’s message.

“He urged me to keep fighting and working hard. I will give everything I have and I really want to win trophies with the team,” he added.

Brighton have built a strong reputation in recent years for giving opportunities to emerging talents, and Yohanna is expected to be gradually integrated into the first-team setup.

The club’s long-term approach to player development is seen as a major attraction for young prospects looking to grow in the Premier League.
