'I can finish, cross and assist' - Otele reveals what he can bring to the Super Eagles attack

Hamburg winger Philip Otele has expressed his delight at being part of the Super Eagles squad for the 2026 Unity Cup.

The Basel-owned player has been considered by manager Eric Chelle despite his limited playing opportunities at Hamburg since the conclusion of the international window in March.

Otele made his international debut as the Super Eagles were forced to a 2-2 draw by Jordan on March 31, coming off the bench to replace Frank Onyeka.

One of the first players to report for duty, the 27-year-old said he has enjoyed every moment of his time with the Super Eagles and is grateful for the opportunity to represent Nigeria.

"It has been very good. I'm really grateful for this opportunity. The coaching staff, the players, everyone has been so welcoming. I am really proud to be with this team," Otele said to Proudly Austin.

Although he was in action for nine minutes on his debut against Jordan, Otele revealed that he observed Eric Chelle's tactical approach.

"I saw the way the boys played, the system. It is a type of system that fits my playing style and I just got to understand how we play better, try to learn from it."

Otele highlighted the qualities he believes he can add to the Super Eagles attack, stressing his versatility and ability to contribute in different areas of the game.

"The way I play is kind of dynamic. I can go in behind with pace. I can link up play as well. I can finish, I can cross, assist. It's a little bit of everything so I can bring this dynamic nature."

The former CFR Cluj winger also praised the determination shown by the home-based players in camp.

"It is good. You can see everyone is hungry, they are hungry to take the next step to join the team. They are motivated, so it has been good to train with them."

On Nigeria's chances of lifting the Unity Cup, Otele said: "Of course, that's why we are in the tournament, we want to win."

Otele will be hoping to earn his second cap for Nigeria on Tuesday. May 26 when they take on Zimbabwe's Warriors at the Valley.
