After relegation to the Championship, Scottish club Livingston release ex-Flying Eagles star

Former Nigeria U20 international Samson Lawal has parted ways with Livingston, with the versatile midfielder among the players released by the club ahead of the summer transfer window.

Livingston found life in the Scottish Premiership challenging and were relegated after only a single season in the division.

Lawal joined Livingston in August 2023, signing a three-year deal until the end of the 2025–26 season.

The 22-year-old moved to Scotland after returning from the 2023 Fifa U20 World Cup in Argentina, where he featured in every match and played an important role in helping Nigeria reach the quarterfinals.

However, regular playing opportunities proved limited for the midfielder during his spell with the Lions.

He leaves the club having made only eleven starts across all competitions over three seasons.

In March 2024, Lawal was sent on loan to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, where he went on to make thirteen appearances.

Before his move abroad, Lawal was part of the Flying Eagles side that claimed a bronze medal at the 2023 Africa U20 Cup of Nations.
